I-5 ramps and lanes to close in Bellngham - Ferndale

The project to replace cracked panels on I-5 is wrapping up with the replaceing of some panels and improving the road foundation north of the Slater Road (exit 260).

I-5: 36th Street to Slater Road improvements

  • Ferndale lane closure July 13-18: Crews will close the northbound left lane near Slater Road (exit 260) so crews can replace the road foundation and repair and replace cracked panels. The lane will close at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 13 and reopen at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18. Heaviest delays are expected between 3 and 6 p.m.
  • Bellingham lane closure July 14: Crews will close the northbound left lane between Lakeway and Sunset (exit 253 to exit 255) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, July 14, as crews complete crack sealing. 
  • Bellingham ramp closures July 14-16: Crews will close ramps for crack sealing. The northbound Lakeway Drive (exit 253) on- and off-ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, July 14. The northbound on- and off-ramps at Iowa Street (exit 254) will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15-16.
WSDOT construction updates

The left lane north bound north of the Slater Road exit will close at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 13th and remain closed until 11 a.m. Friady, July 18th making the evening commute north slower.

Crews will remove and replace cracked panels, and replace the dirt foundation below the road. Once repairs in the left lane the right lane will be closed for repairs.

Crack sealing will close the northbound left lane between the Lakeway and Sunset exits from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday, July 14th. The northbound Lakeway on- and off-ramps from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for more crack sealing. On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15-16, the northbound on- and off-ramps at Iowa street between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. for crack sealing.
