Missing Anacortes Man Found Returning From Canada
Saturday, 21 March 2009

Blaine, Wash. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pacific Highway port of entry were able to determine an 82-year-old man had been reported as missing from Anacortes, Wash., and help reunite him with his caregiver.

On March 17, CBP officers took temporary protective custody of the elderly man who appeared confused and was driving his red 1971 Volkswagen Bug in an erratic manner when he returned to the United States from Canada.

"The vigilance our CBP officers demonstrate on a daily basis not only helps protect the nation and maintain safe communities but also assists the general public and families during their hour of need," said Assistant Port Director Debbie Engels.

CBP officers ran a name check of the man's identity in the National Criminal Information Center data base and discovered the missing endangered record, which was verified with the Skagit County Sheriff's Office. The man was turned over to his caregiver for transportation to back to Anacortes.
