Hands-free cell phone law takes effect July 1st

Starting July 1st, talking on a hand-held cell phone while driving will be illegal without a headset or hands-free device.

Beginning Tuesday July 1st the use of a non hand-free cellphone or texting while operating a moter vehicle.

These infractions do not become part of your driver's record and they are not given to insurance companies or to employers. This law is a secondary enforcement law, which means that you may only be given a ticket if you have been pulled over for another traffic violation.

Exceptions are made for emergency usage or reporting of illegal activities. (The law also does not apply to a person using a hearing aid and does not restrict operation of an amateur radio station.) but then who operates a radio station while driving in traffic.
