Starting Monday, June 23, WSDOT crews will start plowing snow off the road to Artist Point. The work has already been delayed one week because of new snow. The time to clear the road to Artist Point ranged from two to six weeks but a record amount of snow this winter will push that time to the longer. WSDOT crews hope to have the road open by late July Artist Point is located at the very end of Mount Baker Highway, State Route 542 and boasts 360 degree views of Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker, as well as access to a variety of trails. The road to Artist Point, 2.5 miles long and more than 5,000 feet above sea level, is typically buried under snow and closed October through June Pictures from the 2007 clearing effort WSDOT - Artist Point - 2007 Opening |
