Bellingham Police arrest one in home invasion robbery

Bellingham Police arrested Christoper Kellas-Mitchell, age 21 at his home in the 3900 block of Primrose Lane early Wednesday morning following a reported home invasion robbery involving a gun and shots fired.

Kellas-Mitchell allegedly walked into the home of a 22 year old Bellingham man located in the 2000 block of Texas Street at about 11:24 p.m Tuesday night. He was allegedly armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask.

The 22 year old victim told officers he was sitting on his couch when the masked gunman entered his house through an unlocked door. Once inside, the gunman demanded money.

The victim told officers that during the robbery he was struck several time on the head with the gun. He also told officers that at one point during the robbery, Kellas-Mitchell lost control of the handgun and a scuffle resulted. During the scuffle, the mask came off of the suspect. The victim told officers he recognized Kellas-Mitchell from earlier encounters.

Kellas-Mitchell was able to get the gun back. He then allegedly made threats to the victim and another subject in the home at the time. After making the threats, Kellas-Mitchell allegedly pointed the handgun in the direction of the victim and fired a shot.

The gun shot missed. The victim told officers that Kellas-Mitchell left the house with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Officer located Kellas-Mitchell at his residence at about 12:40 a.m Wednesday morning. He was taken into custody without incident.

The victim in the robbery was treated at his home by Bellingham Fire Department Medics for non-life threatening injuries.

Kellas-Mitchell was booked into the Whatcom County Jail for Robbery 1st, Assault 1st , Assault 2nd and Theft 2nd . His first appearance is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
